Prior to the Hauser Creek Fire visit in November 2023 a few OM&F colleagues did a side trip to the site of the 1959 Decker Fire. Part of that visit involved stopping at the California Wildland Firefighters Memorial along the Ortega Highway. The memorial identifies every incident in California where there has been a wildland firefighter line of duty death. It was noted that the last incident recognized was in 2015, so we reached out to the Chief of the Orange County Fire Authority who in turn reached out to the Forest Supervisor of the Cleveland National Forest to offer help for bringing the memorial up to date.
